Netflix’s Mixtape Brings On Nostalgia For The Whole Family

Set in pre-Y2K Spokane, Netflix’s Mixtape follows middleschooler Beverly Moody (Gemma Brooke Allen) who discovers a mixtape made by her late parents. When the tape is eaten up by a tape deck, she sets out on a mission to find and listen to each and every song, believing they contain a special message just for her. With the help of new friends, she learns more about her mom and dad — and herself.

Young actors Gemma Brooke Allen, Audrey Hsieh, and Olga Petsa make a wonderful trio as they dive into the past while making new friendships and memories. Through the power of music, Beverly goes on a journey of self discovery that helps her discover who she is while also bringing her closer to her parents. While set in the late 1990s, Mixtape embraces 1980s to early 2000s culture in its music and references, with callbacks including Back To The Future, N*SYNC, and even Britney Spears.

A feel-good movie about connecting with your roots, making friends, and finding yourself, Mixtape is a can’t miss film for the whole family. Mixtape is out on Netflix now.
