ABC’s A Very Boy Band Holiday Is The Best Holiday Special Of 2021

tv

Nothing puts me more in the festive spirit than a campy holiday special — and ABC brought home the gold with their A Very Boy Band Holiday special.

Filled with self-aware humor, smooth vocals, and holiday classic songs, A Very Boy Band Holiday was everything I wanted for Christmas and more. *NSYNC’s Joey Fatone served as host for the holiday reunion featuring bandmate Chris Kirkpatrick, Boyz II Men’s Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman, New Kids On The Block’s Joey McIntyre (joined by his son Griffin), O-Town’s Erik-Michael Estrada, 98 Degrees’ Drew Lachey, Jeff Timmons, and Justin Jeffre, and New Edition’s Bobby Brown and Michael Bivins. We even get special cameos from Lance Bass, Nick Lachey, and Sporty Spice herself Melanie C of the Spice Girls.

What made this special even more exciting was seeing the collaborations between each group as they took on each of their iconic holiday tracks, like members of *NSYNC, O-Town, and 98 Degrees singing “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays,” or O-Town and 98 Degrees uniting for “This Gift.” The biggest highlight of the night had to be Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman whose cover of “Let It Snow” was magical (even if they’re still not convinced Boyz II Men is really a boy band!)

I’ve love to see ABC make this an annual special, or even bring us the A Very Girl Group Holiday that Melanie C teased. Better yet, a Boyz II Men holiday special where they can flex even more of their vocal skills.

A Very Boy Band Holiday is available to stream on Disney+.
