JoJo Leads Lisa Frankenstein Soundtrack With “I Can’t Fight This Feeling” Music Video

I’ve loved JoJo since her debut in 2004 with “Leave (Get Out).” Her self-titled debut album was on repeat throughout my formative years and I’ve followed her career ever since, seeing her live multiple times. Now the literal queen takes on REO Speedwagon’s hit song “I Can’t Fight This Feeling” on the soundtrack of Zelda Williams’ directorial debut Lisa Frankenstein. The coming of rage love story finds a misunderstood teen (Kathryn Newton) on a murderous adventure with a reanimated corpse (Cole Sprouse) to find love and body parts. When you hear JoJo’s voice soundtracking one of the pivotal scenes in the film… let’s just say it was enough to bring even the undead’s heartbeat back.

Set in a neon fever dream that is the 1980s, JoJo brings her vocal prowess to the soaring ballad — and gives some love to Williams who has been a lifelong friend of herself. “Nearly two decades of friendship in, the fruit of your hard work, diligence, learning, growing and building ALL come to fruition with Lisa Frankenstein,” she wrote in a heartfelt message to Williams on Instagram. “The way you run a set is a DREAM. I’ve seen it first hand when you’ve directed videos for ‘Save My Soul,’ ‘Lonely Hearts,’ and ‘Think About You!’ Your capacity is breath-taking. Please believe, it’s no small feat to keep everyone on a whole MOVIE SET calm and SEEN and respected and simultaneously make amazing artful things happen.”

“I’m in awe of you, Z. You are the best kind of leader. Your heart is even bigger than your brain and that shit is XL. There’s no one more deserving of this moment. It’s a privilege to go through life alongside someone so open hearted and generous and truly beautiful. You’ve taught me so much about friendship and family and life in general,” JoJo wrote. “Thank you for having me be a part of this moment with you.”

Watch the music video, above, and listen to the song when both the Lisa Frankenstein movie and soundtrack drop on February 9. It’ll be out digitally on Backlot Music and on vinyl with Made by Mutant.
