The Shining
The Shining, based on the horror novel by Stephen King, is a psychological horror film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. The film follows Jack who becomes the winter caretaker of an isolated hotel in Colorado as he tries to cure his writer’s block. Spirited Away
Spirited Away, based on Miyazaki’s 2001 picture book, follows Chihiro and her parents as they stumble upon an abandoned amusement park. After her parents are turned into pigs, Chihiro meets Haku who explains to her that the park is a resort for supernatural beings who need a break from Earth. She must work at the park in order to free herself and her parents.

Based on the coming of age novel by S.E. Hinton, The Outsiders follows Ponyboy Curtis and his group of greasers as they struggle with what is right and wrong in a society where they are outsiders. The controversial book and film have become a staple in American education.
