Rudy Mancuso Shares The Melodies That Capture His Life In Música Trailer

Rudy Mancuso makes his feature directorial debut with the Amazon Prime film Música. Along with directing, he writes, choreographs, and stars in movie, taking us through the torturous melodies that live in his brain. His real-life girlfriend — Riverdale and Upgraded actress Camila Mendes — stars as his love interest, with J.B. Smoove, Francesca Reale, and Mancuso’s mom Maria Mancuso rounding out the cast.

The coming-of-age rom-com follows Rudy, a New Jersey street performer who has synesthesia, causing him to experience life through the musical rhythms of everyday noises. In the trailer, we watch as Rudy is slapped back into reality by a gigantic fish after being entranced by his first glance of Mendes as Isabela. He is mesmerized by her, saying, “She's different, she's funny, she's pretty, she's smart.” But he finds himself in a difficult position now that his ex-girlfriend Hailey expresses a desire to rekindle their relationship. However everything is different with Isabela. He has found someone with whom he can share the music that defines his life. The film teases the audience with the question: What will Rudy decide for his future?

Música transports viewers to a vibrant celebration of Brazilian culture. From its music to its colors, we can clearly see Mancuso's love and appreciation for his heritage. And of course, we get a puppet which pays tribute to Mancuso's Awkward Puppets YouTube channel.

Música set to premiere at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival this March and will begin streaming on Amazon Prime on April 4.
