First Kill Cancelled After One Season By Netflix

You never forget your first…. and unfortunately last.

Netflix has confirmed they will not be picking First Kill up for a second season, according to Deadline. The teen vampire drama series was based on a short story by author V.E. Schwab and followed teenage vampire Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook) and monster hunter Calliope (Imani Lewis) who fall in love. With vibes of Romeo and Juliet meets Disney’s Zombies meets Killing Eve, First Kill was a bit campy and didn’t take itself too seriously while exploring some intriguing vampire lore.

In an interview with The Daily Beast, First Kill showrunner Felicia D. Henderson opened up about how she felt the marketing of the show never went beyond the lesbian vampire elements, which may have limited its potential. “The art for the initial marketing was beautiful. I think I expected that to be the beginning and that the other equally compelling and important elements of the show — monsters vs. monster hunters, the battle between two powerful matriarchs, etc. — would eventually be promoted, and that didn’t happen,” she said.

Analysis of Google search data from Jeffbet.com reveals that US searches for ‘cancel Netflix’ have soared by 250% in the last 24 hours since the show’s cancellation was announced and the hashtag #SaveFirstKill was trending with over 13K tweets.

Within the first week of its release on June 10, First Kill became one of Netflix’s top TV shows. It peaked at No. 3, behind Stranger Things and Peaky Blinders, with 48.8 million hours viewed in its first full week.

The series was executive produced by Emma Roberts as part of her initiative to adapt books for television.
