Eleanor Isn’t Who She Says She is In Hulu’s Black Cake Trailer
The New York Times bestselling novel Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson is getting an on-screen series adaptation!
The murder mystery series, executive produced by Oprah Winfrey, takes you on a journey to unravel the family secrets, cultural heritage, and personal growth of Eleanor Bennett and her two children.
After it’s revealed that Eleanor passed away due to cancer, her children are presented with a flash drive with stories told by Eleanor herself about her past. In the trailer, the mystery goes further as she reveals her real name is Covey, the former being a fake name to protect her children and herself from the past.
She continues to talk about her culture in Jamaica during the late 1960s and being forced to marry at 16 years old. On the run following her husband’s murder, she seeks an escape by fleeing into the Caribbean Sea. The story progresses as she recounts her journey from Jamaica to America, leaving her children shocked as they try to make sense of their family’s origins.
The series stars Mia Isaac, Adrienne Warren, Chipo Chung, Ashley Thomas, Lashay Anderson, Faith Alabi, and Glynn Turman with recurring guest stars Ahmed Eljah, Simon Wan, and Sonita Henry.
Black Cake debuts the first three episodes November 1 on Hulu, with a new episode every Wednesday.
