Is Faran Strong Enough To Defeat Bloody Rose In Pretty Little Liars: Summer School Episode 4?

tv

Bloody Rose targets another Liar… and it seems like we remove a suspect off the list in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4.

After being attacked by Bloody Rose on her birthday, Mouse (Malia Pyles) finds out from her grandmother that a friend named Rose is the one who told her to take her to Rose E. Ricottas. Honestly, I am scared for her grandma! The girls want to have an emergency session with Dr Sullivan (Annabeth Gish) after this attack, but it turns out she had a minor accident herself. Someone pushed her down the stairs and she’s in the hospital. I thought it was interesting that she specifically called out the idea that it could be a former patient who did this to her.

Mouse has fears that she caused the Bloody Rose legend to begin after posting online about Archie’s mask and other things only people who saw it could know and then people ran with it. This leads us to our first big revelation that this might not be the real Rose Waters under the bandages so she turns to Spooky Spaghetti to try to find the real Rose. Together Mouse and Ash (Jordan Gonzalez) enture around on his motorcycle checking out locations.

Tabby (Chandler Kinney) gets an unknown call that is luckily enough not Bloody Rose, but the Pittsburg International Festival of Terror! They lwant to know if she has another film she can submit so she and Christian (Noah Alexander Gerry) get to work on a project. She ends up pulling an idea that’s like Jaws in a movie theater with a psychotic projectionist. I loved how Christian said she was movie star beautiful and it would be awesome for her to represent as a Black final girl in the movie. While it’s fun for everyone to come together to put the movie together at the Orpheum, this also causes Tabby to feel triggered because it was a film idea she had initially brainstormed with Chip. They end up submitting the film, so crossing my fingers it makes it into PIFT… without getting tampered with by Bloody Rose!

Imogen (Bailee Madison) gets put on babysitting duty when the Winters ask if she can babysit her biological daughter when they have a family emergency. She gets scared while there and invites Johnny (Antonio Cipriano) over to keep her company. She’s running all over the house with the baby and a knife, which seems super dangerous — especially when Johnny just walks in because the front door wasn’t even locked! That just seems like horror movie 101, but Imogen is spiraling. Despite all this she and Johnny continue to bond and this episode has big kisses for both Imogen and Johnny and then Tabby and Christian, solidifying those summer romances.

Meanwhile they’re getting prank calls at Pinball Pizza, which could be Bloody Rose messing with Noa (Maia Reficco), so she and Jen (Ava Capri) end up ditching work to hang out at Jen’s rich dad’s house. I just feel like Jen isn’t good for Noa and whenever they’re together Noa makes bad decisions, like drinking and throwing around Bling Ring plans. Later on, Noa gets a call from Jen after her rich dad has her arrested. Noa borrows $2,000 from her boyfriend Shawn to help her make bail… and then Noa thanks him by cheating on him as she shares a kiss with Jen. Shawn deserves better.

Kelly (Mallory Bechtel) feels a bit of doubt about Redemption House and wonders if they may hurt people with it. She gets a bit rebellious in this episode especially after finding out that her mom is having an affair with the pastor of the church. She spends the evening at the pool with Greg, alonside Faran and Henry, and when she gets home her mom goes full Margaret White from Carrie. Kelly gets knocked out and wakes up surrounded by religious paraphernalia and a photo with her dad’s face crossed out. I wonder if she’s being brainwashed by her mom.

Meanwhile, Faran (Zaria) and Henry’s relationship seems to be going downhill, especially after it turns out he’s been sharing their relationship issues with the church group. She ignores his calls, but ends up taking one from Bloody Rose. She feels like she’s gotten really strong and can take anyone down, even their biggest adversary. She ends up at a construction site with a note from Bloody Rose. Her challenge is to hold up a metal beam for two hours and, if can’t do it before the clock runs out, then someone she loves dies. Honestly, this seemed like a weird request, but Faran, in her cool girl HOKAs, is able to do it. Seems like Bloody Rose didn’t like that as then she comes out to fight and Faran has to jump the fence to get away.

While Faran is facing Bloody Roses’ challenge, Mouse has gotten a lead that the real Rose is living under a bridge in a homeless community known as tent city. They find her and try to confront her, but she runs away and jumps into a river. I was like… did this woman just kill herself? They go through her belongings to try to prove she really was Rose Waters and find her file from the Radley Sanitarium, which shows that Dr Sullivan’s was her doctor! This is really huge because not only is Rose Waters still alive, but I feel like this proves that she is not the one targeting the girls. But how does this all connect back to Bloody Rose? I wish we had a bit more concrete direction on Bloody Roses’ motivation. A was all about justice, whereas Bloody Rose wants to put the girls through final girl tests… but why?

Breaking it down, there are plenty of people who have it out for the girls and might want revenge. This new revelation puts a lot more suspicions on Dr Sullivan and the Radley Sanitarium, both of which were featured in the original Pretty Little Liars series. Not only does she have a connection to them through Rose, but being the Liars’ therapist also gives her clear ammo to use against the girls. But if the real Rose Waters doesn’t seem to be targeting them, why would Sullivan care about them? Meanwhile, Kelly’s mom is very creepy and controlling in this episode. It makes me more curious about this church and what Redemption House will really mean. She has reason to be against the Liars after losing both her daughter and husband last season. She could even be brainwashing Kelly to be Bloody Rose.

When it comes to who would care about a final girl status, the people that stand out are Tabby and Christian. Maybe Wes too, although we haven’t seen much of him this season. It even made me think of Chip’s mom too. We already know she has it out for Tabby and Imogen, perhaps Chip got his love of horror from her. I also feel like the fact that Imogen has been having terrifying dreams about her mom and Bloody Rose could be important, especially after diving deeper into the final girls poster that was released to support the show.
