Jenn Tran Is Making Bachelorette History As The First Asian American Lead

tv

A previous contestant on ABC’s The Bachelor has been named The Bachelorette for season 21. Meet Jenn Tran, the first Asian American woman to be cast as the lead for this franchise.

This historic milestone for the franchise also serves as a deeply meaningful achievement for Tran, who is Vietnamese American. She has shared how growing up with a lack of authentic Asian American representation on TV made her feel like she had to fit into a box until today.

“Now to be here today, sitting in this position, being like, ‘I am going to lead my own love story. I am going to be the main character in my story,’” she said at the season finale of The Bachelor. “I just can’t help but think of how many people I’m inspiring and how many lives I am changing.”

Beyond breaking barriers in television, Tran is simultaneously pursuing a career in the medical field, studying to become a physician assistant in Miami, Florida. She’s beautiful and brilliant! The 26-year-old bachelorette is off to begin her summer of love, dating a group of men who will all be looking to win her heart.

“I hope I find my person, someone that I truly feel like is 100 percent my perfect match and someone who I’m compatible with, someone who he and I can have fun and also just feel like we’re each other’s person,” Tran told host Jesse Palmer.

This is it! Tran’s future husband is hopefully in the batch of men carefully selected by ABC. Season 21 of The Bachelorette will air on ABC and stream on Hulu this summer.
