Couple To Throuple Is Coming To An End, What Are The Final Days Looking Like For These Throuples?

tv

Welcome back as we recap Couple To Throuple week 3 — the claws are out, folks!

From Ashmal dubbing Maximo and Ash "two clowns" to Brittne and Sean deliberating for what felt like an eternity over whether Sanu or Darrien was their perfect match, these three episodes were possibly the most intense we've seen yet. If you weren't on the edge of your seat, jumping and screaming from the beginning to the end of these episodes... well, we must not have been watching the same show. Remember last week when I questioned why Darrien hadn't mentioned her romantic interest in Ash and Maximo to Shawn and Brittne? Well, she finally did! And let me tell you, the drama unfolds from that moment on.

Let’s start with Maximo and Ash, who have definitely brought the drama to the retreat. I loved their entrance as they really challenged the dynamic in the house, but many of their actions seem very far off from who they claim they are. Strike one was telling Jonathan not to tell Becca about their interest in him. While that ultimately backfired because Becca and Jonathan are besties, wouldn’t it have been better to be upfront with Becca? And though I never could have imagined myself seeing eye to eye with Rehman, would it have not also been prudent to have a chat with Rehman and Ashmal? We all know Jonathan, Rehman, and Ashmel have been together from the start and have been emotionally and physically intimate. Maximo and Ash claim to be transparent and open, so how did that get lost in these situations? But boy, are these two amazing with their words. First, getting our girl Becca to roll over with such ease. I was honestly shocked when she just casually kissed them as if they didn’t just disrespect her. And then, at breakfast, Maximo told Brittne and Sean that they are all for them with Darrien, yet they are very clearly waiting to snatch Darrien up. It wouldn’t have surprised me if they did without discussing it with Brittne and Sean.

Despite this, they do end up with Jonathan, which is clearly infatuation and not anything serious. Jonathan is so wrapped up in Ashmal and Rehman. His energy is even different. Maximo and Ash seem very committed to pursuing him and clearly aren’t seeing that there’s something deeper going on. There was obviously no hope for that throuple, so when Jonathan decides to go back with the boys, it makes perfect sense, leaving Maximo and Ash to make a decision. With Becca being their last and only choice, that’s who they pick. But going back to Becca was probably the tackiest thing they have done. Claiming they are both equally interested in pursuing her was a bold-faced lie. Becca clearly deserves better and I wish she would remove herself from their chaos.

This week, we witnessed firsthand the allure of drama, as Jonathan left only to find himself drawn right back into it. He swapped out of his relationship with Rehman and Ashmal because he felt they weren't in sync, only to later realize he wanted to be with them again after joining a new throuple. But considering the boys were arguing every few days, how could Jonathan just sit in that awkwardness?

After Jonathan made his decision, Rehman and Ashmal did the only thing they could do and attempted to close the door and focus on their relationship with Frank. But Maximo and Ash clearly had other plans as they forced a conversation between both throuples. They're not afraid to push boundaries and have hard conversations, but it seems they weren't approaching this with the purest intentions. The boys made it very clear they did not wish to speak, but Maximo and Ash continued, seemingly enjoying provoking Rehman as he continued to get quite annoyed. The highlight came when Ashmal said they were losing time with Frank and Maximo responded with a dismissive, “OMG, 5 minutes." I was at the edge of my couch.

After speaking to both Ashmal and Rehman separately and being shut down, Jonathan lost hope. He had poured his heart out and the boys gave him nothing in return. However, as we know, they are always the most irrational when they are feeling vulnerable. After much back and forth, the boys admitted they were both still emotionally invested in Jonathan. Did you see Jonathan's face light up when the boys said they wanted to talk? He went back into the room with a huge smile. And Maximo and Ash had no idea. Did I feel bad? Yes. Did they bring this on themselves? Yes. This has to be the most in sync we have seen Rehman and Ashmal — and it makes sense. Whether or not this relationship lasts, they did build a magnetic connection with Jonathan instantly that didn’t fade just because their feelings were hurt. Them coming back together in the end only made sense.

As for Brittne and Sean, are they making a mistake with Darrien? Darrien's beauty radiates through her energy and light, but her approach to relationships differs from Sean and Brittne, who seek exclusivity. Sanu's assertiveness might come across as strong, but doesn't it demonstrate her care? She's focused on building a solid foundation, whereas Darrien appears more inclined to explore. It is obvious that Sean and Brittne like her, as this is the most affectionate and gentle we’ve seen them, but that’s frankly not enough. During the final stay or swap ceremony, Brittne expressed gratitude to Sanu for helping them learn throughout their experience, which shows how much they value her. “We can’t really check you off the list as doesn’t work. We don’t know," said Sean during the Unfinished Business challenge, which just proves that they may have let a good thing go too quickly.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Sanu, Sean and Brittne ultimately chose to stay with Darrien, which isn’t a disappointment but feels like a missed opportunity to explore a connection that would align more with what they value in a relationship. This doesn’t mean Darrien isn’t amazing, but how amazing is she for Sean and Brittne?

Dylan and Lauren pleasantly surprised me this week and made me gain so much respect for them. They knew what they wanted and explored until they found it. Was I wrong about them this whole time? This couple, up until this point, has been difficult to figure out. It seemed as though they were just looking for their next threesome. But now, with Jess as their third, they have really blossomed into these wholesome people who are giddy and excited about their future. They are inviting someone into their marriage and because of how solid they are, they couldn’t bring someone in who they didn’t vibe with on every level. With Jess, it seems like they have found their person and, though it’s really early on, I think there is potential.

Their parents came to visit and it’s very clear that Lauren’s mother isn’t happy about them adding someone else to their marriage. She seems very traditional. But Lauren and Dylan are doing this despite the judgment and misunderstanding of those around them, which is really a testament to their marriage. Though I will still argue they aren’t the most interesting of the bunch, does that really matter if they’ve stayed true to who they are? I think this relationship with Jess could develop. However, again, they are married. What will Jess's role look like in their future?

This show has so many layers, but I always have to give a special mention to the friendships in the house. They are just as vital to the story as they are to the comedy. I think the Peacock gods heard my call for more scenes with the couples showing the relationships they’re building between each other. I love watching as they instigated the conversation between Becca, Maximo, and Ash. They really rely on each other, and it’s exciting to see how their relationships have formed. I absolutely loved how Frank looked over to Dylan, Lauren, Sean, and Brittne when he was stuck in that conversation. It was so subtle, but you could tell he was just like, "Please save me." Allowing these relationships to be shown really elevates the show, which is why I think these episodes took the series to a new level.

We have one more episode to unpack before this raunchy, hilarious, scandalous show comes to an end. The final episode of Couple to Throuple airs next Thursday on Peacock.
