From Class of ‘07 to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Should You Add These To Your Watchlist?

A Brooklyn man goes on a wild adventure to save his brother, while a group of women are stranded at their old high school… should you watch these new projects?

Class of ‘07

If you like Yellowjackets or The Wilds, you’re going to love Class of ‘07. When an apocalyptic tidal wave hits during the 10-year reunion of an all-girls high school in Australia, the group has to survive on their campus while dealing with old high school drama.

It stars Emily Browning, Megan Smart, and Caitlin Stasey and overall has a fairly diverse cast that’s really fun to follow. I love a “people stranded and trying to survive” series and this brings a refreshingly funny take to it, while also having a ton of layers with great character development and acting. This is one of the best shows of 2023, so I need you to watch it so we can get a season 2!

Class of ‘07 is streaming on Prime Video.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Dungeons and Dragons fans and newcomers alike will have a lot of fun with Honor Among Thieves.

It’s got a great cast, lots of action, and there’s laughs, although I expected it to be a bit funnier especially since the team behind Game Night made the film. It does follow along with the pacing of a D&D campaign where there’s a lot going on and sometimes that means the pacing is all over the place. Some people might enjoy that, others might not. There’s also a couple of really cool sequences involving a portal wand and Justice Smith’s characters wonky magic. Both Smith and Regé-Jean Page were big stand outs. While it was a fun movie, I couldn’t get behind the pacing and was expecting a little more laugh out loud humor.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is playing in theaters.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a nostalgia overload that will have you smiling through the whole film. There are so many Easter eggs and references that even casual fans will pick up on. While the story doesn’t go very deep, I loved the themes of brotherhood and coming into your own. The visuals were whimsical and delightful and the action was well done.

While people were skeptical about Chris Pratt voicing Mario, he does a great job in the role. Anya Taylor-Joy brings a badass Princess Peach to life, while Jack Black steals every scene he’s in as Bowser. Seth Rogen is good as Donkey Kong, but he was in so much of the movie that I was surprised he didn’t get the title card treatment too. All in all, it’s a quick and simple, yet feel-good movie, that serves as a love letter to the world of Mario.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is playing in theaters.
