Stranger Things 4 Reveals First 8 Minutes of New Season, Plus The Episode You Don’t Want To Miss!

We’re only a week way from the return Stranger Things and now Netflix has dropped a sneak peek at the first 8 minutes of season 4, above.

In the clip, we head back to Hawkins Lab in 1979 to see a day in the life of Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) and the human experiments he ran on Eleven and her “siblings.” This flashback explains why there aren’t more super-powered kids in Hawkins and takes us one step further into the horror genre this season has promised. We even get a throwback to a young shaved-headed Eleven first tapping into her abilities.

Season 4 will be split into two volumes, the first consisting of seven of the nine episodes. The remaining two will be released as volume two on July 1. While that might seem a bit uneven, the episodes are significantly longer than they have been in previous seasons, with Netflix’s fan website Tudum confirming episode 7 will be 98 minutes, episode 8 is 85 minutes, and episode 9 runs nearly 2 1/2 hours. That’s right, we’ll be getting nearly 13 hours of content in just these nine episodes!

A longer run time means more epic moments coming our way, right? We spoke with director Shawn Levy on the red carpet for the Stranger Things 4 world premiere and he confirmed the can’t miss episode of the season. “I’ve gotten lucky. Every year I get to direct episode three and four — and [with] episode fours, I’ve been really blessed. Year One, it was the Christmas lights. Year Two, it was the Mind Flayer. Year Three, it was the sauna test with Billy,” shared Levy. “And this year, it’s an episode called ‘Dear Billy.’ Coincidence or not? I don’t know. Soon the world will.”

This new season of Stranger Things will find the cast separated between Hawkins, California, and Russia as the gang balances bizarre supernatural phenomena with adjusting to high school life. When a new threat from the Upside Down emerges, everyone must reunite to save not just Hawkins, but the world. Priah Ferguson shared with us on the red carpet that this season would be “vulnerable, dark, and answer the questions the fans have been wanting to be answered.”

Stranger Things stars Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Noah Schnapp, Winona Ryder, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Maya Hawke, Cara Buono, Priah Ferguson, and Brett Gelman. Elodie Grace Orkin, Amybeth McNulty, Jamie Campbell Bower, Joseph Quinn, and Eduardo Franco are new members of the cast this season.

Stranger Things 4 Volume 1 premieres May 27 and Volume 2 premieres July 1 on Netflix. The show has been renewed for a fifth and final season.
