Elizabeth Banks and Kumail Nanjiani Look Back On Their Favorite Tom Hanks Moments

Elizabeth Banks and Kumail Nanjiani star opposite each other in the new Illumination animated film Migration. They star as a duck couple who take a huge risk to leave their safe pond and go on a grand adventure with their kids to Jamaica. During the Migration junket, Pop Culture Planet’s Kristen Maldonado spoke with Banks and Nanjiani about their favorite moments in their careers. Surprisingly their choices had one big star in common — Tom Hanks!

“I was in this movie Catch Me If You Can and you just reminded me that the first time I met Tom Hanks he just sidled up next to me. He came from behind. I didn't know and then suddenly I was looking at him and he goes, ‘Hey. Hanks, Banks. Banks, Hanks,” she laughed. “It's still one of my favorite moments maybe of all time. He just knows my name.”

Meanwhile, Nanjiani learned how to perfect his red carpet pose thanks to Hanks. “He taught me how to pose on the red carpet,” he revealed. “I was at a thing and he was posing right there. We sort of spoke very briefly. I don't really know him, just briefly. I was like, ‘How do you do the red carpet?’ He told me how to do it and I've been doing it since.”

He broke down the secret sauce. “It was very specific. Left hand in pocket. Right foot in front. Right hand free,” Nanjiani shared, with Banks agreeing: “That's right. You always have to have the one foot a little in front.”

Migration hits theaters December 22. See the full interview, below.
