From You Season 4 Part 1 to Magic Mike’s Last Dance, Should You Add These To Your Watchlist?

Joe is back… plus you know it’s going to be a wild ride when four best friends get together. So should you watch these new movies and shows?

80 for Brady

What happens when four best friends journey to the 2017 Super Bowl to see Tom Brady play? Absolute chaos, that’s what!

Inspired by a real group of older women who gathered to watch Brady and the Patriots each week comes a larger than life fictional story called 80 for Brady led by icons Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field.

The first act is pretty cheesy and hard to get through. The story isn’t very strong, but as it goes on it just gets more over the top and ridiculous that you can’t help but be charmed and laugh along. There’s a lot of silly cameos — including Guy Fieri, Billy Porter, and Rob Gronkowski — and crazy one-liners. There’s something about it that’s so bad, that it’s good. If you’re looking for a good laugh with friends, this might be up your alley.

80 for Brady is playing in theaters.

At Midnight

Fate brings together an ambitious hotel manager and a movie star who finds themselves drawn to each other in At Midnight. If you love rom-coms, a movie within a movie, and the magic of Mexico, you’re going to have a lot of fun with this one. The superhero movie they’re filming even gave off a bit of Robert Rodriguez vibes, which I enjoyed. Diego Boneta and Monica Barbaro had great chemistry, you really believed them. There’s tons of meta humor, captivating magical realism, and classic cinema elements brought into the real world as we learn that even though life isn’t a movie, maybe it can be.

At Midnight is streaming on Paramount+.

Freeridge

Witches be bonkers… but the new On My Block spin-off Freeridge is anything but.

We’re introduced to a new core four — played by Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Bryana Salaz, Ciara Riley Wilson, and Tenzing Norgay Trainor — who have to break a curse after coming into possession of a mysterious box. While the show definitely has connections, Easter eggs, and even a few cameos from the original show, it’s not enough to make this a can’t miss. The new characters are insufferable and spend most of their time fighting with each other. None of them stand out, the jokes don’t land, and nothing really happens this season.

The first season of Freeridge is streaming on Netflix.

You Season 4 Part 1

Joe Goldberg is back for You Season 4 Part 1 and honestly… it’s the worst season of the show yet.

This season the roles are reversed as Joe becomes the new “You.” When members of London’s wealthy elite start being killed off, he goes on an Agatha Christie-style whodunnit mystery to take down a new murderer. The premise sounds promising, right? But this season feels like a completely different show that has no real connection to the past seasons. This new cast has no depth, there’s no stand outs. Even Joe has lost his appeal. We’ve seen him as a serial killer, an anti-hero, but in this season he spends most of the time looking off into space in deep thought. It’s awkward and you don’t get why he’s with these rich people or why they even want him around. That was the missing piece for me. There’s just no real catalyst for him to waste his time with these people. While I’ve loved past seasons, this one gets a thumbs down from me.

You Season 4 Part 1 is streaming on Netflix.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance

Channing Tatum returns for one more dance in Magic Mike’s Last Dance.

This new film finds Mike heading to London with a wealthy socialite (Salma Hayek Pinault) who offers him an opportunity of a lifetime. They really elevate Mike’s story beyond amateur dancers to show what he’s truly capable of as a creative. It’s beautifully shot with so much energy and spectacle as they tap into the London theater scene — and the chemistry between Tatum and Hayek Pinault really sizzles on screen. They get the female gaze spot on as they center romance, intimacy, and a woman having it all while connecting with a person who’s all in on her. And we can’t forget that fire soundtrack with some Magic Mike classics and new additions like “Suavemente!”

The perfect movie to watch with your girls this Galentine’s Day — Magic Mike’s Last Dance is in theaters now.
