Disney+ Is Getting A YA Phantom Of The Opera! Here’s Our Dream Cast For Kenny Ortega’s Phantom
The legendary Kenny Ortega is back at it again! We all know and love the choreographer, director, and producer behind our favorite projects like Dirty Dancing, Hocus Pocus, the Descendants and High School Musical franchises, and Julie and the Phantoms, so it’s a no-brainer that we’re down to watch whatever he does next.
Last year it was announced that he will direct Disney+’s Phantom, a YA movie reimagining of the classic novel The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. It follows a disfigured musical genius who becomes obsessed with a young soprano. As we wait for the cast to be revealed, let’s have fun fancasting the two iconic leads of the film.
Dara Reneé as Christine Daaé
Dara Reneé delivered stellar performances in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and Descendants: Rise of Red, showcasing her musicality through both singing and rapping. Her impressive range would make her a strong choice for Christine, bringing a fresh energy and flair to the character.
Madison Elizabeth Lagares as Christine Daaé
Think Pink! The Broadway stars performance in Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies definitely got our attention. Madison Elizabeth Lagares’ voice can be delicate and soft, but can be powerful in those scenes where Christine gains her confidence through the Phantom.
Liamani Segura as Christine Daaé
Another member of the Wildcats! Liamani Segura, known for her role as Emmy in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, captured the hearts of many with her singing. She’s always lighting up Instagram and TikTok with new song covers — you’ll never catch her out of tune!
Gaten Matarazzo as The Phantom
Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo has been showing off his musical stylings since he made his Broadway debut in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in 2011. He’s played Gavroche in Les Misérables, Jared Kleinman in Dear Evan Hansen, and most recently delivered a powerful performance as Tobias Ragg in Sweeney Todd. In the song "Not While I'm Around," he showcases his vocal range, moving from a soft, almost whisper-like delivery to a commanding, full register. His voice carries a deep emotional resonance, a quality he could bring to the Phantom.
Adrian Lyles as The Phantom
The musician and actor from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series can bring creativity and originality to the piece. Adrian Lyles’s voice carries emotional weight with every word, a quality that is crucial for portraying the Phantom. His live studio performances capture the raw authenticity of his artistry.
Benjamin Pajak as The Phantom
From Broadway’s The Music Man to The Life of Chuck with Tom Hiddleston, Benjamin Pajak certainly knows how to captivate an audience — especially through song. Since the film will be geared toward a teen audience, Pajak may be the youngest Phantom they can cast at 14-years-old, but certainly a solid choice.
