Stephanie Beatriz, Keith David, and Kimiko Glenn Lead Hazbin Hotel Voice Cast, Plus New Original Song Unveiled At New York Comic Con

Hazbin Hotel fans rejoice — we’ve got some big announcements out of New York Comic Con!

Pop Culture Planet’s Kristen Maldonado sat front and center at the Prime Video Presents: The Power of Prime panel, giving us new looks at Invincible season 2, Hazbin Hotel, The Wheel of Time season 2, and Upload season 3. During the Hazbin Hotel section, creator Vivienne Medrano took the stage to tell us more about the much-anticipated animated series!

Dedicated fans have been obsessed with this world since Medrano dropped the original animated pilot on YouTube in 2019. The story follows Charlie Morningstar, the princess of Hell, as she pursues the seemingly impossible dream of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom… oh yeah, and it’s a very NSFW musical! With its stunning and unique visuals, loveable characters, and catchy musical numbers, it garnered over 90 million views and caught everyone’s attention — including that of A24, who have made this their first ever animated series.

Fans at the panel got to be among the very first to see the opening musical number for Hazbin Hotel titled “Happy Day In Hell.” Medrano described it as Charlie’s “I Want” song and an introduction to this universe. She also said this series springboards off of the original YouTube pilot in what she calls a “Pilot 2.0,” in that it doesn’t retread what we’ve already seen but continues the story.

Even more exciting is that this clip announced the brand new cast lending their voices to these already beloved characters! Erika Henningsen, best known for originating the role of Cady Heron in Mean Girls on Broadway, takes on the role of Charlie Morningstar. Stephanie Beatriz of Encanto fame plays Vaggie, while Blake Roman joins as fan favorite Angel Dust. The legendary Keith David is playing Husk, Kimiko Glenn voices Niffty, and Amir Talai plays the Radio Demon himself Alastor. Alex Brightman plays Sir Pentious and Joel Perez and Christian Borle voice demons Valentino and Vox, respectively. Yes, the theater kid in me is screaming too!

While the pilot dropped in 2019 and the series is coming to Prime Video in 2024, this project has been years in the making for Medrano. She shared that growing up she always loved monsters and villains and from a young age had been building the world of Hazbin. “Some of these characters I’ve had with me since middle school,” she told the crowd, specifically citing the character of Alastor. She was inspired by Burt Healy’s “Your Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile” from Annie when it came to his voice. In fact, Medrano said she found a clip of Talai singing the Healy song online that she loved, sent his name to casting, and he booked the role!

Get ready to head to hell when Hazbin Hotel hits Prime Video in January of 2024.
